This is an unusual and rare oyster plate that dates to circa 1890. An antique French Majolica plate that originates in Onnaing, France with beautiful colors of maroon, red and turquoise. The Onnaing factory was one of the most famous of the French majolica factories and was located in Northern France near Belgium. This plate has 6 indented wells in the shape of fish heads and a center well for lemons.
The fish heads are surrounded with turquoise scales and mouths with teeth. This plate measures 10 and is in excellent used condition. There is some very minor crazing on the back but no other cracks or chips. The colors are still very vibrant and outstanding.Typical for this ware the plate is unsigned. A great piece of Majolica for your collection.
