C Porcelain Rare Pair of Seated Boys Blue White Figures. C, Porcelain, Pair Seated Boys, wearing blue glazed aprons tied at the waist, their hair tied up in top knots.

This pair have probably been underwater in a shipwreck as there is an organic, hollow, worm like extrusion by the hole in the ear of one figure. From the formation of their hands and fingers they were possibly holding ruyi sceptres at one point. Tallest to hair top knot - Height 4 1/4 inches (11 cm). Very good, some small losses to end of fingers and extremities. Please refer to the photographs as they form an important part of the description. These figures were popular in China during the 18th C, often found on famous shipwrecks, they were modelled on existing figures known to Chinese potters, such as deities and mythical animals. These two figures probably represent the Hehe Erxian or Daoist Twins, immortals who are symbols of harmony and happiness, bestowing blessings on marriages in Chinese folk religion.
